THE CHOR HA PHAYAK GYM Special report by Serge TREFEU (2024)
The Chor Ha Phayak Gym, nicknamed “the camp of the 5 tigers”, belongs to Mr. Pattanchanin Meechan, better known in the boxing world as «Sia Chai Sukhothai». This passionate Muay Thai businessman founded this camp about fifteen years ago, investing 100 million baht to erect a superb training center in Lam Luk Ka, in the province of Pathumthani, 40 km from Bangkok.
During the difficult period of the covid pandemic, the Chor Ha Phayak Gym almost closed its doors permanently. Sia Chai was forced to send his fighters back to their families because without fighting, they could not support themselves. The camp was temporarily closed during this trying time.
Fortunately, after the pandemic ended, boxing competitions resumed in the country, and Chor Ha Phayak Gym fighters were able to return to the ring.
The Chor Ha Phayak Gym has about fifteen fighters, under the guidance of four experienced coaches. The head coach is none other than the legendary champion of the 90s, Wangchannoi Sor Palangchai, nicknamed Wonderman.
Another coach, specialized in Boxing, also distinguished himself by his fighting skills. Bangsaen Yodmuaydong, famous for his striking power in the 80s and 90s in Muay Thai, won several knockout victories against renowned opponents such as star Cherry Sor Wanich, as well as champions Dejsakda Kittikasem, Chandet Chor Danthong, Pinphet Sor Sawamipak, Khao Sanit Sor Ploenchit and Samadhi Klongphonjon. With 150 fights to his credit in Muay Thai, he also had a professional career in Boxing, winning 17 out of 19 fights, including 10 by knockout. In 1990, in a match in England, he claimed the WBC International 122 lbs title against English champion John Davison, but was defeated by TKO. Originally from the same village in the Khon Kaen region as the legendary Krongsak Boranrat, who became a coach in France, Bangsaen also taught there for several years.
Since its inception, this camp has produced great champions such as Seuayai, Taksila, Phet Tuan Pae, Teeradej, Singdam, Satangthong, Nopadej, Yodsila, Sornkhao, Nong O and Phetjakchan.
Very few foreign fighters have trained at Chor Ha Phayak Gym. The siblings of the “Nak Muay Brothers”, the French fighters Petchnung Petch Muay Thai, Petchsong Petch Muay Thai, Petchsam Petch Muay Thai, who have their boxing camp in Hua Hin in the south, when they have fights in Bangkok, come finish their preparation at Chor Ha Phayak Gym.
