Today, Muay Thai in Europe it’s democratized, he’s more popular that in the 80s and 90, we demonize him less and many people practise him in recreational sport. There is even now a Muay Thai Fitness, a kind of Thai boxing which is practised without setting of knocks, just man to sweat and lose weight…

In the majority of the competitions, in France, the boxer is furnished from now on with an outfit of impressive protection. The boxers in class C wear a headgear, a plastron, protect shins, elbow pads and classes A always have elbow pads…

The purists of the Muay Thai say that it misrepresent this sport but the physical integrity of the boxer comes first…

So, in the 2000s, Muay Thai in ” the European ” allowed to open this sport to a wider population. It brought down quite a lot of prejudices face to face practising of Muay Thai. The parents don’t any more hesitate to register their child in the gyms of Thai boxing and the girls practise more and more this sport ardently!

But you should not forget that the “Real” Muay Thai is one of the most violent sports of the planet!

This sport practised at high level, in particular in Thailand, is very hard at first physically and sometimes very bloody!

In Thailand, the fights reach another dimension, it’s the universe completely different from matches that have him sees in Europe. In the big stadiums of the country, it’s not rare to attend titanic battles where the boxers end often stained with blood!

So, after certain bitter matches, the fighters finish several times on a stretcher where in a wheelchair!

But it’s what makes this so fascinating and so mesmerizing sport. And the boxers who practise him at this level show an extraordinary courage!

Very few foreign fighters were able to compete in Thailand with the Thai champions in their stadiums. Both boxers who made so wild and intense fights as the Thai champions are the Dutchman Ramon Dekkers and French Jean-Charles Skarbowsky. That’s why these phenomenal two champions are enormously respected in Thailand!
