Serge TREFEU: Hello Jaroenthong, and thank you for grant me this interview, how are you?

JAROENTHONG KIATBANCHONG: Hello, well, thank you

How old are you?

I am 44 years old 

You come of what region of the Thailand?

I am of the village Thung Yai of Nakhon Si Tammarat’s region in the South of the Thailand

What is what you have brothers and sisters?

Yes I arise from a big family of nine children, I am seventh children of the family!

Your brothers fought?

Yes it was good fighters, my older brother was called Chalamthong Kiatbanchong and my younger brother was called Samranthong Kiatbanchong (This great champion died tragically in 2008 in a road accident in 37 years)!

You were a brawler when you were a child?

No I never fought…

You began the boxing at which age?

In 12 years

In what age you have make your first fight?

I have make my first fight in 12 years, I gained 100 bahts…

How you discovered the boxing?

It’s my older brother who introduced me to the boxing…

You began Muay Thai in which camp?

My first camp was Kiatbanchong in Nakhon Si Tammarat’s region 

Then you were in Bangkok? 

Yes when I was adolescent I went to Bangkok to study at the high school and I went to the camp Muay Thai School (Kiatbanchong Gym of Bangkok) in the district of Bangseu

The Kiatbanchong camp was renowned, what champions there was in the time in camp?
There was Jaroensap, Oley, Samranthong, Isara, then later Kaolan, Pornpitak, and many others, Wangchanoi also came one moment…

In what category you fought?

I began in 115 lbs, then in 126 lbs and in 135 lbs

What title you gained?

I gained the belt of Lumpinee in 115 lbs against Payanoi Sor Thasanee, the belt of Lumpinee in 126 lbs against Samransak Muangsurin, the belt of Lumpinee in 135 lbs against Therdkiet Sitepitak and world champion WMC’s belt in 135 lbs against Ramon Dekkers!

How much have you make of fights, how much have you of victory and defeat?

I have make 151 fights for 120 victories, 29 defeats and 2 draws! 

You had which style of boxing?

My style of boxing was technical, an intelligent boxing, I was left-handed, I was good with fists also because I have make of the Boxing also

You also fought in Boxing?

Yes I gained the Golden medal at the International Games to Surathani, the Bronze medal in the Cup of King!

What was your hardest fight?

Against Samart Payakaroon, it was very hard, he beat me by KO…

Your best memory of boxing?

I think that my fight exhibition with Samart in the stadium of Omnoi in 2012 was a big memory, we found ourselves on the boxing ring, 20 years later…
But I best wishes are in 1988 because I had a lot of success during this year!

What are the known fighters that you faced? 

Samart, Hippy, Dokmaipa, Paruehatlek, Wangchanoi, Langsuan, Panomtuanlek, Nampon, Sombat, Orono, Samransak, Cherry, Namkabuan, Superlek, Therdkiat, Radjasak, Jongsanan, Saencheng, Phetdam, Payanoi, Chamophet… 

You fought abroad?

Yes I fought several times in the United States, in Japan, in France, in Russia, in New Zealand, in Holland, in China…

You fought in France, in which year?

It was in 1989 in Paris against a Dutch Masseur (André Masseur)!

You know French boxers?

I don’t know too much the foreign fighters…

You have to know Dida Diafat because you have to shoot in his movie “Chookdee”?

Ah yes Dida it’s a friend, yes a good memory the movie with Dida!

What is for you the strongest foreign boxer that you saw fighting in Thailand?

Ramon Dekkers! 

And the best Thai fighter?

For me the biggest boxer was Samart Payakaroon, he was also strong in Muay Thai as in Boxing!

You made well your living thanks to Muay Thai?

Yes very well but I invested all my money in my camp of boxing which I have now…

What was your promoter when you fought?

It was Songchai Ratanasuban

You gained good purse in the time?

My best purse was 250 000 bahts for the match against Saencheng Pinsinchai!

After your boxer’s career what you have make?

I am a trainer in my camp Jaroenthong Gym which is in Bangkok in Wang Thong Lang’s district in 581 Ramkhamhaeng 39 Pracha Utit

Jaroenthong was a magnificent fighter, a technical boxer who mastered the art of the slipping, this great champion often made hard fights against champions that they has to face several times as Nampon (6 times), Cherry (6 times), Phetdam (6 times), Superlek (4 times), Therdkiet (3 times) and Radjasak (3 times)!
Jaroenthong beat the best of his category such as Nampon Nongkeepahuyut, Chamophet Ha Phalang, Wangchanoi Sor Palangchai, Panomtuanlek Ha Phalang, Phetdam Lukborai, Payanoi Sor Thasanee, Samransak Muangsurin, Therdkiet Sitepitak, Cherry Sor Wanich, Superlek Sor Isaan, Saencheng Pinsinchai, Radjasak Sor Vorapin!
This great champion also beat formidable Dutch Ramon Dekkers, Tommy Vanderberg and André Masseur (KO)!
 

JAROENTHONG AGAINST TOMMY VANDERBERG!

 

In 1993, in the King’s Birthday, he overcame big Ramon Dekkers and gained world champion WMC’s belt. In this memorable fight which to oppose the technician Jaroenthong against powerful Dekkers, Dekkers had well to connect Jaroenthong with his fists during all the match but Jaroenthong had cut the Dutch to the face with the elbows and it’s finally imposed on points! 

JAROENTHONG VS DEKKERS!

 

Jaroenthong after his boxer’s career has to go up his camp which is now famous in Bangkok, it’s a camp in which many foreigners come to train, and it’s certainly the camp of Bangkok where there are most girls who train! 

JAROENTHONG GYM!

 

Jaroenthong is a boxer which makes many thing wich also tried in the politics, in the modelling and in the cinema. In politics, he it is presented a few years ago to the regional elections in his Nakhon Si Tammarat’s region in the South, a region which means a lot to him because a big part of his family lives over there!

In 2012, a fight must be organized between Jaroenthong and the star Somrack, the promotion was well made but the fight did not take place because Jaroenthong was too light with regard to Somrack. Finally Jaroenthong met another star, Samart Payakaroon in an exhibition match in the stadium of Omnoi!

THE PROMOTION FOR THE FIGHT BETWEEN JAROENTHONG AND SOMRACK!

 

Jaroenthong has to shoot in several movies the most famous of which are Chookdee and Yamada the Samurai of Ayothaya. In the movie Chookdee, he plays the role of Kowang, Kowang faces Dida in a clandestine fight which is one of the cult scenes of the movie!
