LOOK YAMO GYM

“Look Yamo” is based in the city of Nakhon Ratchasima, more collectively called “Korat”. It’s the 4th city of Thailand and the capital of the region Isaan, she’s situated at 4 am in the northeast of Bangkok.

The camp is kept by French Charlton Henri which lives in Thailand for 12 years. Charlton Henri fought during several years almost everywhere in Thailand with in his meter 54 fights among which 11 in Boxing.

KHRU CHARLTON

Charlton Henri was formed by Arun Kounmana, member of the first Thai team which left training in Cuba to learn it the Boxing, and by Khru Sak Muangkhunphaen, considered as having been one of the most technical trainers of the golden age of Muay Thai, in the years 80/90. An exceptional trainer who coached legends such as Pud Lorlek, Akrom Chengrai or still Phayap Penchai, he also trained several champions of the Lumpinee, the Rajadamnoen and the medal-holders Olympic in Boxing amateur.

MASTER SAK WITH CHARLTON HENRI

Charlton Henri began his trainer’s job, by taking care during two years of the former champion of the Rajadamnoen and the world champion WMC, the Thai Luknimit Singklongsi. Together, they have climbs the steps which allowed to reach Luknimit the first place in the ranking of the famous stadium Rajadamnoen and the second place in the ranking of the stadium of Lumpinee by beating champions as Thaksinlek Kiatniwat, Fongluang Sitboonmee and Sangmanee Sor Tienpo!

Charlton Henri was then head trainer to the camp Vor Sakornrit, the prestigious camp which belonged to the members of the Royal family of Thailand and to the captain of Royal Thai Navy.

Then, he was a trainer a few months in Phœnix Gym of Bangkok before come back to the region of Isaan to open his own camp under the name of “Muangkhunphaen”. A name in reference to the former camp of his mentor Khru Sak, name which was officially bequeathed to him.

For one year, although being in the same place, the camp changed name to become “Look Yamo”.

Look Yamo literally meaning ” The children of YAMO “.

Yamo is a historic figure of Korat. A heroine warrior who fought the Laotian invader in 19th century. It’s the emblem and the protector of the city. Her statue thrones in the middle of the city center of Korat, where every day hundreds of Thais come to pray and to make offerings in front of the statue.

Charlton voluntarily decided to teach only in his camp, that it considers more as a technical training center which a camp traditional as we find in every city and village of Thailand.

Charlton created a method of work which allows him it can take care completely of each of his boxers individually, some is the number and in any sessions of the day.

Indeed, he proposes in each of the boxers, a daily personalized individual program. A program which he mixes with the collective exercises so that each can train together while working their specific programs.

Since his creation, of numerous international champions coming four corners of the world came to the Look Yamo. They come to work their key points, their weak points, acquire new techniques and take advantage of the association of the technical contribution and of the steady physical preparation which they find there, as well as to prepare their fight.

The two daily training sessions of 3 hours and 4 hours each are divided into two parts:

1. Learning or technical repeat

2. The work of fitness

After numerous tests, Charlton opted for a physical preparation more modern than in the Thai camps. This to obtain a constant progress of the results and keep the energy and the lucidity of the boxers for the advanced technical working sessions.

Favoring his work to the formation of foreign boxers, Charlton train only novice Thai boxers. Sometimes professionals but only for missions of a few weeks for promotions Thai which ask for his services.

To the camp Look Yamo, the sparring and the clinch are executed most of the time in work with theme to make the boxer progress in the domains which it control least.

Nevertheless, for the preparations of fight, Charlton calls on to Thai boxers of the other camps such as champions as Surasak (Champion of the PPTV and the fighter of the Kunlun) or Petchmakot, the last winner of the tournament Weber, to come to help during the sessions of sparring and clinch free.

In a parallel to his trainer’s role, Charlton is also a manager. He allowed for several years numerous boxers to fight for the biggest organizations, as well in Muay Thai, in K1 and in Boxing of which he remains very active.

In Boxing, he also trained several champions as recently Chonlatarn Pirinyapinyo, for his world title WBO in Mexico.

Concerning the accommodation, the boxers are accommodated in new apartments situated in only 300 meters of the camp and they eat in the restaurants which face their room. Restaurants and supermarkets, coffee shop, Laundry, 7-Eleven and Family mart, is close by.

The city center being two kilometers, the boxers can rent scooters directly to the camp to be able to move freely.

The lack of beaches is compensated with the numerous swimming pools of the city of which the boxers can take advantage during their free time.

To go on site from the airport of Bangkok. It’s simply necessary to take a taxi up to the bus station “Mochit” and to take one of the numerous buses for the city of Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat) there who leave every 30 minutes, 24/24, 7 days a week.

The route lasts 4 hours, the price of the ticket is about 200 Bahts (5 euros).

Charlton gets back the newcomers in the bus station of Korat, they can also take a tuk-tuk to go from them even directly to the camp which is situated in only three kilometers.

KORAT IS AN ATTRACTIVE CITY WITH A LOT OF COMMERCIAL CENTERS AND SEVERAL GREAT SPORTS CENTERS

THE CITY ALSO HAS A STADIUM IN WHICH MUAY THAI EVENTS ARE PLACED

In spite of the hesitation of some to go up to this city unknown of foreigners, more and more gyms recommend in them boxers to come to train for the Look Yamo to perfect their technique, their tactical knowledge and take advantage of the closeness and the commitment to the everyday life of the trainer devoted to their progress and their objective.
