THE CATEGORY OF 140 LBS (63 KG 500) IN THAILAND

by Serge TREFEU (2018)

The category 140 lbs (63 kg 500) is an interesting category for the foreign fighters. Indeed, many foreign boxers fight in their country often between 63 kg and 70 kg. Certain foreign boxers, who weigh 70 kg, do not hesitate to come down to 63-64 Kg when they come in Thailand. To have more opportunity to meet Thai champions classified in the big stadiums. Because, for years, the pool of Thai fighter is between 55 Kg and 67 Kg.

Several foreign champions who made their mark in Thailand fought in the category of 140 lbs like Ramon Dekkers, Dany Bill, Morad Sari, Jo Prestia, Dida Diafat, Guillaume Kerner (Between 63 and 67 Kg in Thailand), Fabrice Payen, Gilbert Ballentine, Hassan Kasrioui, John Wayne Parr (In 140 lbs then in 160 lbs), Joel Cesar, Christian Garros, Patrick Ericksson, David Hergault, Manu N’tho, Jean-Charles Skarbowsky, Farid Villaume, Mustapha Totof Youcef, Mehdi Zatout, Soren Eminentair, Rudolf Durica, Fabio Pinca, Damien Alamos, Liam Harrison, Rafi Bohic (140 lbs and 147 lbs), Andrei Kulebin, Chadd Collins, Stephen Meleady, Mathias Gallo. Today, it begins to change a little because the morphology of the Thai boxers evolve, they became bigger, heavier than their fellow countryman of the 70s, 80, 90 and 2000. But for a long time, in Thailand, it was below the category of 67 kg that we found most large numbers of high-level champions.

So, many Thai champions took away their important titles in 135 lbs (61 Kg). Then, they made their career in the category 140 lbs.

The 2000s produced some legends such as Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn (Lumpinee Champion in 135 lbs) or Buakaw Por Pramuk (Omnoi Champion in 140 lbs, Isuzu Tournament Winner in 140 lbs). As well as the Lord of the rings Saenchai who won all his titles of Lumpinee between 52 Kg and 60 Kg. But he then made practically all his career of fighter abroad in the category of 63 Kg. Champions like Narupol Fairtex (Lumpinee Champion in 140 lbs), Kem Fairtex (Radja Champion in 135 lbs), Attachai Fairtex (Lumpinee Champion in 135 lbs), Bowee Sor Udomson (WMC and S1 World Champion in 135 lbs), Singmanee Sor Srisomphong (Radja champion in 140 lbs), Mangkon Kietsomkoun (Radja champion in 135 lbs), Pajonsuk Lookprabat (WMC world champion in 140 lbs, Radja champion in 147 lbs), Noppadhet Kietpetch (Champion TV7 in 140 lbs, champion of Thailand in 140 lbs).
