The Thailand is really a nation strong in Boxing, because since the 60s, a great deal of champions shone in this style of boxing. With the boxers of the Philippines, Mexico and Japan, the Thai boxers are a member of countries which dominate the circuit world in small categories. Many gained the title of World champion professional and about some even became legends of the Boxing as the immense champion Khaosai Galaxy who made history of this sport. Khaosai was a real destroyer, an exceptional puncheur, to such a point that we nicknamed it “Tyson Thaï”.
He made a small career in Muay Thai under the name of Sohla Saenghom but Niwat Laosuwanwat his manager of always quickly revealed the enormous potential which had Sohla with his fists. Niwat changed his name of nakmuay and named him Khaosai Galaxy. Khaosai is a small mountain near Petchaboun in the North of the Thailand, Niwat wanted a symbol which represents the pure strength for his boxer. And Galaxy was the name of the camp of Niwat. Khaosai thus fast passed in the Boxing and made his first professional fight in 1980 with a victory by KO. His career then was phenomenal because on 48 professional fights, he gained 47 victories among which 41 by KO, a unique record.
Khaosai was defeated only once, in points, against Sakda Saksuree for his 7th fights. In 1984, he won world champion WBA’s belt of the Super-fly (52 kg) against the Dominican Eusebio Espinal, victory by KO. Then, he’s going to defend 19 times his title (16 victories by KO) and to remain unconquered till the end of his career in 1991. In 1999, Khaosai Galaxy, for his whole career, was admitted in the very select ranking of “International Boxing Hall of Fame” who include legends as Mike Tyson, Muhamed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard or Julio Caesar Chavez!

The Thailand produced also 22 Thai world champions in professional Boxing in federations minors of the WBF and the WBU. Big champions of Muay Thai also conquered a title in these federations. One of the most known is the puncher Samson Isaan.
In Muay Thai, Samson gained the belts of two big stadiums of Bangkok in 1992, the belt of Lumpinee in 118 lbs against Seanklay Sitkhruot (KO) and the belt of Radja in 115 lbs against Lahkin Wasanpasit. He beat champions such as Keawmorakot Praynan (KO), Veeraphol Sahaprom (KO), Jomhodlek Rattanachoad, Jaroensak Kietnakhonechon (KO), Thongchai Thor Silachai, Chatchainoi Chowraioi…
Samson was elected ” Best boxer of the Year ” in 1991 by “The Sport Writers Association of Thailand”.
SAMSON ISAAN LUMPINEE CHAMPION, RADJA CHAMPION
His fighter’s name in Boxing was Samson Dutch Boy Gym, he was unconquered in Boxing with 43 professional fights among which 36 gained by KO. Samson gained the world title WBF in 1994 and he defended him 38 times, nobody managed to dethrone the bull from Roi Et!

But the champions of Muay Thai who gained titles in the most prestigious federations and realized an exceptional career in Boxing are Saensak Muangsurin, Samart Payakaroon, Veeraphol Sahaprom, Yokthai Sit Or, Amnant Ruenroeng, Wangheng Meenayothin and Newlukrak Pagonponsurin.
Saensak Muangsurin (in August 13th 1950/16 in April, 2009) was born to Petchaboun under the name of Bounsong Mansee, several of his six brothers were also boxers. Bounsong began his career to the camp Percharoen to Petchaboun and fought under the name of Seansap Petcharoen. Then, he integrated the famous Muangsurin camp in Bangkok and having taken away the Games amateur Asiatic in Boxing, he changed name to be called Saensak Muangsurin.
Then, he made practically all his career for the camp Muangsurin. Nicknamed “Saytalaylok” (The destroyer left), it was the formidable ” Muay Mat ” (Strong in fist) that gained the belt of Lumpinee in 140 lbs against Sorasak Sor Lukbouklo. Saensak, in Muay Thai, faced all the big champions of his time such as Wicharnoi Porntawee, Sirimongkol Luksiripat, Phud Lao Lek, Kondetch Lukbangplasoy, Pud Pad Noy Worawoot, Weesan Kriangkrayut, Kunpol Sakornpitak, Tamindong Looguthong…
In 1973, he received the trophy from ” Best boxer of the year ” given by “The Sport Writers Association of Thailand”.
SAENSAK MUANGSURIN LUMPINEE CHAMPION
Saensak began to fight in Boxing in professional in 1974, and after only two fights, he met Spanish Perico Fernandez for the title of champion of the World WBC. On July 15th, 1975, he beats by KO Perico Fernandez and becomes a World champion WBC in 140 lbs (-63 kg 500)!
Saensak defends his title successfully by beating Japanese Lion Furuyama but loses it in front of Spanish Miguel Velazquez. The revenge takes place four months later, Saensak puts KO Spanish and gets back his belt WBC. For three years, Saensak is going to keep his title nine times before losing him against the Korean Sang Hyun Kim. Saensak made 20 professional fights with 14 victories and 6 defeats, he faced of formidable champion such as legendary Tomas Hearns (World champion WBA, WBC, IBF) who was unconquered at the time of their confrontation, Saensak lost by TKO in front of “Hit Man”…
SAENSAK MUANGSURIN WORLD CHAMPION WBC
Samart Payakaroon was born on December 5th, 1962 in the village of Klong Khet in the province of Chachoengsao. His born name is Samart Thipthamai.
He arises from a large family among which three of his brothers were boxers. The biggest of the brothers of the family Thipthamai was called Manus nicknamed Pee Toui. As professional boxer, it’s him who is going to teach the boxing to his younger brothers Sompong, Kongtoranee and Samart.
The brother Thipthamai trained at their home and fought in their province under the name of “Lookhlongkhet”. Samart Lookhlongkhet makes his first fight in 1972 at the age of 10 in a holiday of province near at home, he beats Petaroon Sitnimit in points and gains 40 bahts.
Towards the age of 12 years, leaves in the province of Chonburi near Pattaya with his brother Sompong, later his brother Kongtoranee will join them. The brother Thipthamai trains for the camp Payakaroon where Samart is going to make about ten fights for this camp. Then, he integrates the Sityodthong camp, the camp which belonged to Master Yodthong Senanant. Samart is going to make all his career in the famous camp Sityodthong beside his older brother Kongtoranee Payakaroon.
From 1980 till 1983, Samart is at the top of his Art, he faces the best of his category in 102 lbs, 108 lbs, 115 lbs and 126 lbs, and makes space in each of these categories. In 1980, on February 29th, he beats Kongsamut Sor Tanikul and takes away his first belt of Lumpinee in 102 lbs in only 17 years. On November 11th, he faces Pounlak Sakniran for the belt of Lumpinee in 108 lbs, Samart beats Pounlak in points and gains his second belt of Lumpinee. On March 31st, 1981, in the stadium of Lumpinee, he meets Singthong Prasopchai for the belt of Lumpinee in 115 lbs, Samart becomes a champion of the Lumpinee in 115 lbs. And, on October 13th, in Lumpinee, he faces Samingnoom Sitibountham for the belt of Lumpinee, Samart takes away his fourth belt of Lumpinee in the category in 126 lbs.
Samart faced several times great champions such as Chamuakpet Ha Phalang (2 victories, 1 defeat), Samransak Muangsurin (4 victories), Nampon Nongkee Pahuyut (2 victories), Chavalit Sod Jitlada (6 victories), Paruehuslek Sitchunthong (2 victories, 1 defeat, 1 draw), Bangkhlanoi Sor Thanikul (2 victories, 2 defeats), Kitty Sor Thanikul (4 victories), Samingnoum Sitibountham (4 victories), Padetsuk Pitnurachan (4 victories) and Pounlak Sakniran (2 victories)!

Samart obtained three times the trophy from ” Best boxer of the Year “. Trophy awarded by the famous institution ” The Sport Writers Association of Thailand “. He received it prestigious trophy in 1981, 1983 and 1988. And, was elected best boxer of the year in 1986 by the famous international magazine ” The Ring “!
SAMART PAYAKAROON FOUR TIMES LUMPINEE CHAMPION
Samart makes his first professional fight in Boxing, on August 24th, 1982, in Bangkok, a fight that he takes away by points in front of his compatriot Netrnoi Sor Vorasingh (World champion WBC). After 11 victorious fights, on January 18th, 1986, in Bangkok, Samart faces the Mexican Lupe Pintor for world champion WBC’s belt in 122 lbs. Lupe Pintor has just gained the title five months previously. The Thai puts KO the Mexican with a magnificent left jab in the fifth round.
Samart defends his title on December 10th in Bangkok where he puts KO the Mexican Juan Meza. But on May 8th, 1987, in Australia, he loses his belt WBC by being put KO by formidable Australian Jeff Fenech who is then a holder of world champion IBF’s belt.
On September 11th, 1994, for his last fight in Boxing, Samart meets the puncher of Venezuela, Eloy Rojas, for world champion WBA’s belt who is held by Eloy Rojas. The titleholder beats Samart by KO in the fifth round.
Samart made 23 professional fights in Boxing with 21 victories (12 KO) and 2 defeats. He made all his fights in Thailand except his world championship against Jeff Fenech in Australia and one fight in Paris, on June 20th, 1986, against the American Rafael Gandarilla, whom he gained in points.
SAMART PAYAKAROON WORLD CHAMPION WBC
Veeraphol Sahaprom of his real name Teerapol Samranklang was born on November 16th, 1968 to Nakhon Ratchassima in the northeast of the Thailand but he grew up in Kaeng Khoi in the province of Saraburi. His fighter’s nickname was “Death Mask” because when it fought on the boxing ring, the face cleared no emotion, it was impassive during all his fight.
It’s the big promoter of Radja Chujaroen Raveeramwong (Owner of the famous camp Chuwatthana in Bangkok) which went up fabulous career of Veeraphol Sahaprom.
Veeraphol gained three belts of the stadium of Ratchadamnoen, the first belt in 108 lbs against Pewphong Sitbobai, the second belt in 112 lbs in front of Saimanoy Thor Bounlerd, and finally, on June 23rd, 1993, he beat by KO the star of time Silapathaï Jockygym (3 times champion of the Radja) for the belt in 115 lbs. The magnificent technician Silapathaï led the fight to points but in the last round Veeraphol he released a terrible left hook which struck his opponent, Silapathaï was evacuated on a stretcher…
Veeraphol be a part of the biggest punchers of 90s, in Muay Thai, he beat great champions of the discipline as Hippy Singmanee, Karuhat Sor Supawan, Dokmaypha Por Pongsawan, Keawmorakot Praynan (KO), Noppadet Sor Rewadee (KO), Burlek Pinsinchai (KO), Deaneuha Deanmolee (KO), Douangsompong Por Pongsawan (KO), Samson Isaan (KO), Langsuan Phanyuthaphum (KO)!

Veeraphol makes his first professional fight in Boxing on December 2nd, 1994 to Nonthaburi, he beats Filipinos Joel Junio by KO and gains the International title of champion WBC in 115 lbs. One year later, on September 17th, 1995, he faces the Thai Daorung Chuwatthana which holds world champion WBA’s belt in 118 lbs. Veeraphol beats in points Daorung and wins his world champion WBA’s first belt in 118 lbs. But on January 28th, 1996, he loses his title in front of Ghanaian Nana Yaw Konadu who puts him KO.
Two years after the loss of his title WBA, on December 29th, 1998, Veeraphol fights again for the supreme title. In Japan, in Osaka, the Thai puts KO Japanese Joichiro Tatsuyoshi and takes away world champion WBC’s belt in 118 lbs. For seven years, Veeraphol is going to defend his title WBC 14 times successfully, a real record. He keeps his belt triumphantly in matches which take place in Thailand and in Japan. But on May 14th, 2001, Veeraphol defended his trophy in Paris, to the Sports center, in front of Mexican Ricardo Barajas whom he beat by KO with a magnificent right hook in the third round. The speaker of the Parisian event was the famous speaker of the event of Thai boxing, ” The Voice ” Daniel Allouche. The Thai will lose his belt WBC, on March 16th, 2005 in Japan against Japanese Hozumi Hasegawa. Veeraphol made 72 professional fights in Boxing with 66 victories (46 KO), 4 defeats and 2 draws.

Yokthai Sit Or of his name Manit Klinmee was born to Chonburi on December 25th, 1974, comes from a family of fighter he makes his career in the famous camp Sit Or near Pattaya. His younger brother was also a big champion who was called Tappaya and who took away, in 140 lbs, 3 prestigious belts, the belt of Radja which he kept during 3 years, the belt TV7 and world champion WMC’s belt. Yokthai is the uncle of the famous champions Ramba Somdet and Sudsakorn Sor Klinmee.
In 1994, Yokthai gained the belt of Lumpinee in 115 lbs. It was the terrible puncher that beat in Muay Thai the champions such as Seagmorakot Sor Ploenchit (KO), Lamnamoon Sor Sumalee (KO), Rittidet Kerdpayak (KO), Nung Ubon Sitlertchai…
The big promoter Songchai Ratanasuban had given him the nickname of “Aymat Sayklonarok” (The punch of the cyclone of hell)!
YOKTHAI LUMPINEE CHAMPION
In 1994, Yokthai begins his professional career in Boxing and after 10 victorious fights he compete for a world championship WBA. On August 24th, 1996, he becomes a world champion WBA – 52 kg by beating by KO the Venezuelan Alimi Goitia. Yokthai is going to defend four times his title against the Indonesian Jack Siahaya (Victory by KO), the Venezuelan Aquiles Guzman (Win on points), Japanese Satoshi Iida (Draw) and Venezuelan Jesus Rojas (Win on points). But on December 23rd, 1997, Yokthai loses his belt WBA for the revenge in front of Japanese Satoshi Iida. Yokthai made 37 professional fights in Boxing with 28 victories (17 KO), 6 defeats and 3 draws.

Amnant Ruenroeng was comes from a very poor family, abandoned, this orphan was saved by the boxing. In the age of 7 years he’s taken in hand by Master’s Yodtong in the famous camp Sityodtong to Pattaya where he’s going to become a nakmuay formidable. But due to problems of drugs he’s going to leave the Sityodtong camp and to go to the camp Por Burapha to Chonburi. He will fight several years under the name of “Petch Por Burapha” and also Petch Tor Bangsaen. In 2000, in the age of 20 years, he gained champion’s belt of the Lumpinee in 112 lbs. Amnant faced in particular four times the star Sam-A Kayanghadao with a victory and three defeats, he lost against Sam-A for the belt of Lumpinee in 115 lbs, on December 7th, 2004.

AMNANT RUENROENG FOUGHT IN MUAY THAI UNDER THE NAME OF PETCH POR BURAPHA
In 2005, Amnant ends up in prison for a big deal of aggression, he goes made two years of prison and it’s within the prison environment that he discovers the Boxing. He’s going to gain the amateur title in Boxing in champion’s light flyweight of Thailand while being imprisoned. After his exit of prison, he takes away a bronze medal in championships of amateur world of Chicago and in 2008 he wins the Cup of King by beating Japanese Kazuto Ioka. In 2010, he gains the golden medal in the games Asiatic.
Then, in 2012, he becomes a boxer professional in Boxing. And after six victorious fight, he faces Filipinos Julius Alcos and takes away the vacant title flyweight IBF Pan Pacific. In 2014, to Nakhon Ratchassima, in the northeast of the Thailand, he meets Filipinos Rocky Fuentes for the title world IBF flyweight and takes away the belt IBF. Amnant Ruenroeng is going to defend six times his belt successfully by beating Japanese Kazuto Ioka, the Puerto Rican McWilliams Arroyo, the Chinese Shiming Zou, Filipinos John Riel Casimero and Japanese Myung Ho Lee. Amnant Ruenroeng, in 36 years, remains today unconquered in professional with 17 victories among which 5 by KO!
AMNANT RUENROENG WORLD CHAMPION IBF
Wangheng Meenayothin was born on October 27th, 1985 to Nong Chik in the province of Maha Sarakam in the northeast. Formed to the famous camp Meenayothin in Bangkok, he made 80 fights in Muay Thai with 55 victories, 23 defeats and 2 draws. Called “Yak Krae Muangthai” (The Dwarf Giant of Thailand) this formidable Muay Mat gained in Muay Thai the Tournament Marathon Vigo in 105 lbs, as well as champion’s belt of Thailand in 105 lbs and champion’s belt of the Lumpinee in 105 lbs in 2007.
WANGHENG LUMPINEE CHAMPION AND THAILAND CHAMPION
Out of challengers in Muay Thai, he begins a career in Boxing and makes his first professional fight on January 26th, 2007 which he takes away in points. His fighter’s name in Boxing is Heng Kayanghadao gym. In his third fight, he gains world champion WBC Youth’s belt in 105 lbs by beating by KO the Chinese Yi Ming Ma. He’s going to defend his title nine times before to take the belt WBC International. On December 24th, 2009, he beats Filipinos Jayson Rotoni and becomes a champion WBC International in 105 lbs. He keeps this title 13 times successfully. And on November 6th, 2014, to Chonburi, he meets the Mexican Oswaldo Novoa which holds the supreme title. After a terrible confrontation, in the eighth round, the Mexican, bruised, exhausted, stays in his corner, Wangheng becomes the new world champion WBC minimum weight (48 kg). The Thai has already defended his belt four times and he’s always unconquered until today with 41 fights (16 victories by KO) for all that of victories!

Thammanoon Niyomtrong was born on September 20th, 1990 to Surin in the region of the Northeast, he trains for the camp Excindicongym in Bangkok, the camp of the champions Weraphonlek and Sakoonchai. His fighter’s name is Newlukrak Pagonponsurin (Excindicongym).
In Muay Thai, Newlukrak was a champion of the Lumpinee and the Thailand. He beat Ploysiam Petchyindeeacademy for the belt of Thailand in 105 lbs, on January 4th, 2013, in the stadium of Lumpinee. He lost his belt of Thailand, one month having conquered him, in front of formidable Satanmuanglek Numponthep who broke him his legs. On June 7th, Newlukrak faced again Satanmuanglek, this time for the belt of Lumpinee in 105 lbs, he lost again in front of wonder boy by being defeated in points.
But on February 28th, 2014, Newlukrak goes gained the belt of Lumpinee in 105 lbs by beating by KO Tukatatong Por Thairungruang.
Newlukrak beat great champions in Thai boxing such as Wanchai Rambo Issan, Peteng Kiatphontip (KO), Rungnarai Kiatmuu9 (KO)…

In parallel of his career of nakmuays, he begins a professional career in Boxing and takes the name of “Knockout CP Freshmart“. On June 22nd, 2012, for his first fight professional, he beats Filipinos Marzon Cabilla and takes away world champion WBC Youth’s belt in minimum weight (48 kg), he’s going to defend his title seven times successfully. On October 1st, 2014, he beats the Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago and takes world champion WBA’s belt in minimum weight. Thammanoon has already kept three times his title, he’s unconquered so far with 12 victories among which 6 by KO!

Other big champions of Muay Thai also made a beautiful career in Boxing but have not yet managed to seize a world title WBC, WBA or IBF, it’s the case for example of Panomrunglek Kiatmuu9 and Jomthong Chuwatthana.
Panomrunglek was formed to the renamed camp Kiatmuu9 in the region of Buriram. SAKAD PETCHYINDEE LUMPINEE CHAMPION, RADJA CHAMPION
Sakad made his first professional fight in Boxing in 1977, he beat the Mexican Juan Antonio Lopez in points. After only two fights he met the legendary puncher, the Puerto Rican Wilfredo Gomez (World champion WBC and WBA, 44 victories among which 42 by KO). The world championship WBC of super bantamweight with place to Korat, in the northeast of the Thailand, on June 2nd, 1978. Tawee Umpornmaha was born on November 15th, 1959 to Lang Ban in the province of Rayong. In Muay Thai, he fought under the name of Khaopong Sitichuchay. From 1975 till 1982, he dominated the category 126 lbs in Muay Thai. In 1978, he gained the belt of Lumpinee in 126 lbs by beating Rungsak Petchyindee and kept his title several years. Khaopong overcame very great champions such as Seangsakdaa Sithikasem, Kunponoy Kietsuriya, Nanfaa Siradecho, Raktae Muangsurin, Pud Pad Noi Worawoot, Sirichai Singhnaray, Wichanoy Porntawee, Dieselnoi Ha Phalang!
Tawee made his last fight in Muay Thai on February 27th, 1984 when he beat the big champion Krongsak Boranrat.

Somrak continued his formation in Muay Thai in Bangkok, at first in the camp Sit Arane where he fought under the name of Pimhiranlek Sithiran. Then, to the famous camp Jocky Gym to end in the famous camp Kietpetch of the promoter of the Lumpinee Chun Kietpetch.
Somrak Kamsing made more than 300 fights in Muay Thai with only about ten defeats but has never gained a belt of the big stadiums of Bangkok. He was classified N°1 for a long time in the stadiums of Lumpinee, Radja and TV7, in the category 126 lbs. He beat all the champions of his time, Somrak was so strong that to be able to continue to fight he had to face fighters in the category superior, in 130 lbs. Wijan Ponlid was born on April 26th, 1976 in Si Satchanalay in the region of Sukhothai in the North of the Thailand. His fighter’s name in Thai boxing was Si Satchanalay Taxi Meter and his brother was also a big fighter who was called Sukhothai Taxi Meter. Both brothers began in the camp Sitkrungan to Sukhothai then were then in Bangkok to the famous camp Sasiprapa Gym. Si Satchanalay took away the belt of Radja in 115 lbs in 1995, his brother also gained the belt of Radja in 1994 by beating Rojnarong Daopadriew.

Wijan Ponlid was the second Thai amateur Olympic champion in Boxing.
