THE SOR BOONMEERIT GYM

THE SOR BOONMEERIT GYM
by Serge TRÉFEU (2025)
The Sor Boonmeerit Gym has existed for five years and is located in the Bangkoknoi district of Bangkok. This magnificent camp, nestled on the banks of the Bangkoknoi River, offers an exceptional setting with a swimming pool, a weight room as well as a large area dedicated to the sauna and hammam.

Unlike the noisy main avenues of the capital, the area is peaceful and conducive to concentration. The boxers’ training is punctuated by the passage of the iconic traditional “long tail” boats that sail on the river, bringing a unique touch of exoticism to the atmosphere of the camp.
The Sor Boonmeerit Gym belongs to Mr. Don Surat and is also known as “Don Muay Thai Gym”, in homage to its owner. Originally from Surat Thani, in the south of Thailand, Mr. Don Surat is a renowned promoter, officiating in one of the largest stadiums in the country, the Omnoi stadium, located in Samut Prakan, about 30 km from Bangkok.

Most of the boxers in his camp come from the southern provinces of Thailand, including Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat. They all fight for one of the most important promoters in Bangkok, Mr. Sommai Sakulmetta (Sor Sommai Promotion).
The official sponsor of Sor Boonmeerit Gym is the company S. Boonmeerit Engineering Co, which specializes in the construction and renovation of traditional Thai architecture. Founded in 1986 by Mr. Boonmeerit, who is still the CEO, this company actively supports the development of the camp.

The Sor Boonmeerit Gym is home to around fifteen boxers, including four very high-level athletes, recognized in the most prestigious organizations in the country.
These fighters are supervised by six experienced coaches, including renowned former champions such as Tong Lukmakhamwan (122 lbs Thailand Champion, 122 lbs Lumpinee Champion, 122 lbs Radja Champion) and Kunkoweet Dakee (World Champion).
The coaching team also includes Chaknoi Kiatsaiyong, Chakat Ponyeesain, Jaruwat Meboon and Seusak Tekietbang, each bringing their expertise and experience to the camp.
Sor Boonmeerit Gym is currently home to four top champions:
- Boonchai Sor Boonmeerit – Omnoi Champion in 108 lbs and Thailand Champion in 108 lbs (2024).
- Boonchu Sor Boonmeerit – Omnoi Champion in 122 lbs and 126 lbs (2024).
- Chaladam Sor Boonmeerit – True4You Champion in 122 lbs (2023).
- Paeyim Sor Boonmeerit – Radja Champion in 122 lbs (2022).

In addition to these champions, Team Sor Boonmeerit has excellent fighters who regularly perform in the biggest stadiums in Bangkok, including Mongkolchai Sor Boonmeerit, Boonchot Sor Boonmeerit, Raksaiyam Sor Boonmeerit, Boonlert Sor Boonmeerit and Yodotee Sor Boonmeerit.
Training at Sor Boonmeerit Gym is reserved for professional boxers and requires a very good level for foreigners wishing to train there. However, the owner has built a gym independent of the boxing camp, allowing beginners to take Muay Thai classes. Thus, Sor Boonmeerit Gym welcomes practitioners of all levels, from simple beginners to experienced boxers.

Training rates:
400 baht per day
3,500 baht per week (includes one free SPA session: sauna and hammam)
12,000 baht per month (includes three free SPA sessions: sauna and hammam)
Access to the swimming pool and the weight room is included in the rate.

Affordable condominium apartments are located right next to the camp. They offer foreigners comfortable accommodation nearby, allowing them to stay in peace and quiet and to train easily at the Sor Boonmeerit Gym, located just a few steps away.
