THE YOUNG PHENOMENA OF MUAY THAI
THE YOUNG PHENOMENA OF MUAY THAI
by Serge TREFEU (2013)
In the country of Muay, the fighters begin early their learning of the boxing, generally it is between 8 years and 10 years when they put gloves for the first time. But some begins the boxing downright in 5 years or 6 years as for example the boxers Phompet, Chapoi and Samrong.
Phompet, today in the camp Kanisorn to Thonburi, is 5 years old had already made about twenty fights and gained champion’s belt of the centre region of the Thailand!
PHOMPET
The young Chapoi from the camp Sor Poonsawan in Bangkok began him in 6 years and in only 10 years he was a Isaan champion!
CHAPOI
Samrong, from the camp Chowachala to Buriram, began in 5 years and in 9 years it had already made about 100 fights!
SAMRONG
His small warriors which starts very early their boxer’s career professional are many in Thailand. At the beginning of their career they link the fights without injury time during all year, they fight often, very often, especially the young boxers of the Isaan (Northern Region). In the region of the northeast, his children boxers can fight practically every week in the numerous village holydays where Muay Thai is always present among the festivities…
Most will have honorable careers because are all fighters in the soul. But some are more talented than others and become real prodigies of the boxing, the boxing which they control in the perfection, a boxing innate which they practise naturally, as a gift that they would have received by the “Gods of Muay Thai”. Those there, are different from other fighters and gain important titles from them younger ages…
The story of Muay Thai knew, in any time, talented young people. We can quote, among others, for the 80s, legends such as Samart Payakaroon and Chamuakpet Ha Phalang who were a champion of the Lumpinee in 17 years, for the 90s and on 2000, the star Seanchai Sor Kingstar who was him 16-year-old Lumpinee Champion as well as Yodseanklai Fairtex who also gained the belt of Lumpinee in 16 years or the great champion Robert Kaennorasing who took champion’s belt of the Radja at the age of 17, there were of course many of the others…
Today there is in Thailand a generation of young really incredible phenomena with boxers who make parties the best current fighters of the country, such as Superlek ” The Small Great” Wor Sangprapai (17 years, Lumpinee Champion, Thailand Champion), Songkom “The double-edged sword” Sakhosim (17 years, World Champion WBC Youth), Petpanomrung “The diamond of Phanom Rung” Wor Sangprapai (17 years, Thailand Champion), Peateng Kiatphontip “Uncle Teng” (15 years, World Champion WMC). But the most known are unquestionably the champions The Lek Wor Sangprapai (17 years), Yodvicha Por Boonsit (16 years) and Sangmanee Sor Tienpoh (16 years)!

In 2011, at the age of 15, he takes the title of Thailand Champion in 108 lbs again by beating Julong Ekbangsai. In this match the dumpan in game was of a million bahts. During their first confrontation for the belt WMC, the dumpan had reached the astronomical sum of 3 million bahts, it was the biggest dumpan of these last years. A sum exceeded today with the famous match of the former legends between Somrack Sor Khamsing and Jomhod Kiatadisak who took place in 2013 in Radja with a dumpan of 6 million bahts!
The Lek is a terrible hit hard who moves forward ceaselessly on his opponents, he always made very hard fights, in 2011 he beat in points Khunsuk PN Gym (Lumpinee Champion in 108 lbs and Thailand Champion in 108 lbs) in Lumpinee in an amazing match which was elected ” Best fight of the year in Lumpinee “!
But The Lek lost later by KO against the young Songkom Sakhosim, a “Muay Mat” very strong in fist, which began a career in Boxing in parallel with his career of Thai boxing, Songkom in only two professional fights in Boxing became World Champion WBC Youth in 112 lbs on March 2nd, 2012 and World Champion WBC Youth in 118 lbs on December 3rd, 2012!
In June, 2012 The Lek has still made a terrible fight in Lumpinee against Design Rajanont, current champion of Thailand in 115 lbs, when he brought down in 4th rounds with a blow of knees in the liver!
But The Lek then lost in points, in September in Lumpinee, for the championship of Thailand in 112 lbs against Fahsithong Thor Thepsuthin and in Radja in October against Siangmorakot Thor Manotumraksa. Sangmanee received in 2012 the award of ” Best fighter of the year “, this honorary trophy which was also awarded to Yodvichai Por Boonsit the same year.
Sangmanee is a real phenomenon because contrary to the other fighters he continues to follow important studies. He is going to train only having to spend his day at the school. It is sometimes hard to reconcile high-level sports and the studies but at the moment the young Sangmanee gets out of it very well. He trains in the same camp as the star Seanchai Sor Kingstar, in 13 Coins Gym in Bangkok. And Sangmanee is a great technician who has a boxing of the same style as his partner of training, the genius of boxing rings Seanchai.
Today, Sangmanee gain the biggest purse as Seanchai, 100 000 bahts, what is enormous for a 16-year-old young man. This “handsome boy” became a real small star in Thailand, he is permanently followed by fans, especially girls, who support him in all the fights…
His manager has of big ambition for his prodigious boxer, he wants to concentrate him to the Boxing so that he participates in the Olympic Games of 2016 and win a golden medal. Challenge is interesting because the Thai government had promised the 100 000 million bahts sum for the boxer who would bring back a golden medal during the Olympic Games of London in 2012. The boxer Kaeo Prongpayoon had almost succeeded by won the silver medal in the Olympic Games of 2012!
