INTERVIEW OF TOBIAS ALEXANDERSSON

By Serge TREFEU (2016)

SERGE TREFEU: Hello Tobias how are you?

Hi Serge I’m fine thank you

You were born in Sweden, in what city?

I’m born in the city of Örebro that is situated in the middle of Sweden

How old are you?

I’m 32 years of age

At what age you began the boxing?

I started Muay Thai when I was 15 years old but I tried different martial arts from age 7

How you discovered the boxing?

When I was 13 years I started training in a gym in Örebro and the trainer mixed Muay Thai, Savate and Kickboxing. After almost 2 years in that gym I wanted to train pure Muay Thai and I was told that there was a good gym one hour away with the bus from my city. I called the trainer straight away and I started training there 3 times a week and continued this for about 4 years until the gym was shut down, since then I have been my own trainer…

You began in which gym and with which trainer?

The gym was Karlskoga Thaiboxing and the trainer was Ronnie Stensson

Who attracted you in this boxing?

When I was about 12-13 years I saw the movie “Kick Boxer” with Jean Claude Van Damme. I used to love that movie, I could look at it at least twice a day. When I got to Karlskoga Thaiboxing Ronnie gave me a video copy of a few Rambaa Somdet sit Or and Ramon Dekkers fights that replaced the Kickboxer movie straight away

Today, you are in what gym?

I have my own gym now in Örebro and its called 019 Boxing Gym (019 is the area code of Örebro)

TEAM 019 BOXING GYM

What are the fighters who train in your gym?

A few upcoming guys, no one famous at the moment but upcoming guy Kriss Tallingnam used to be partners but he moved to Thailand about 3 years ago to build his name

Muay Thai is developed well in Sweden? What is that there are many events?

Yes it’s getting bigger and bigger and more accepted among the Swedes. There are a lot of smaller events around Sweden almost every week and a few bigger ones monthly!

You fought a lot in Sweden?

No, not really, I had about 20 fights in Sweden, The Swedish Muay Thai is scored differently (IFMA rules). I prefer fighting professional in Thailand because it suits my style better and the judges and doctors are not afraid of blood and cuts over there…

What are the Swedish champions who inspired you for the continuation of your career?

No one really but I think the Swede Chris Forster (Sor Vorapin) was a good Muay Thai stylist

And the Thai champions?

Wow, there are so many!

I like the style of Bovy Sor Udomson but most of them is from “The golden era” Jongsanan Fairtex, Samson Isaan, Rambo Por Rumrudee, Coban Lookchaomaesaithon, Lakhin Wasandasit, Langsuan, Rambaa, Rambong, the list can go on forever…

BOVY “NEW RAMBO” IS THE FRIEND AND SPARRING PARTNER OF TOBIAS ALEXANDERSSON

In what year you were for the first time in Thailand?

The first time was in 2003 and I went on vacation with my wife to Koh Samui for one month and I was training almost every evening in a small Thai gym called Kietkorwit

In what camp you were to train? How it passed your first trainings in Thailand?

After my vacation with my wife I wanted to go to Thailand and train for real so I booked a 3 month ticket to Thailand. The first gym I stayed at was Kiatchansing in Bangkok. I trained and slept in the boxing ring together with Bovy Sor Udomson and the other Thai champions such as Pongsing Kiatchansing, Phatjai and Gupi wor Suthiran and many more. I stayed there one month until I went to Chay Yai gym in Chiangmai for about 2 month. The next year when I went back to Kiatchansing the gym was shut down because the Boss died of cancer and the boxers and trainers were all gone. I started looking for a new gym and find out Bovy and my padman Taa went to Kaewsamrit so I went there and it has been my base camp since then when ever I come to Thailand

TOBIAS IN CAMP KIATCHANSING

I really love Thai food, especially Isaan food (North east), I can cook many Thai dishes by myself

What you like most in Thailand after Muay Thai?

The food and Thai massage, sometimes I can go to massage 3 times in one day, it’s really expensive in Sweden so I try to go to massage as much as I can when in Thailand

How much you have make of fight in Thailand?

Not sure, about 50-60

What do you think of Thai fighters?

I love their clean style of fighting, good balance, power and speed

Who are for you the best Thai fighters in your category today?

There are many good guys but I prefer the styles of Yodsanklai Fairtex, Aikpracha Meenayothin and Thongchai Sitsongpeenong!

So far, how much you have make of fight, how many victories and defeats?

85 Fights, 61 Win, 23 Lost 1 Draw

You won how much victory by KO?

Approximately twenty victories by KO

What are the titles which you won?

I won World champion WPMF 168 Lbs in 2013 against Samuel Andoche, World champion WPMF 160 Lbs in 2011 against Panom Topkingboxing, World champion WPMF 168 Lbs in 2011 against Laurent Emerald gym

You fights at present in which category?

72-72.5 Kg

What are the techniques which you like making on the boxing ring?

Elbows is one of my favorite weapons, they can change a whole fight with just one poke…

In 2012, you fought against Lamsongkram Chuwattana (Radja Champion in 160 lbs, World champion WBC, S1 Champion) for the belt of Radja in 160 lbs, you lost against him, it’s very rare a foreigner which fights for a belt of Radja, is what you would like you could again fight for the title of Radja champion?

Yes, to win that belt has been one of my biggest goals since I started my career!

You faced three times the robust champion Bernueng (Radja Champion, World champion WMC, World champion WPMF) in terrible fights, what memories you keep of your matches in the face of Bernueng?

The first time we fought I protected my 160 lbs WPMF title that I took from Panom Topkingboxing the previous year, the fight was outside of the horse stadium Sanam maa Langneurn, I won the fight but it was a close fight until I secured the win with an 8 count in round 3 or 4 with an elbow knockdown. Second time I lost and that fight was at a big event in Pattaya, the referee stopped the fight in round 4 because I got too much blood into my eyes. Third time we fought in Sanam luang and I lost on points

MATCHES BETWEEN ALEXANDERSSON AND BERNUENG ALWAYS HAVE BEEN OF TERRIBLE BATTLES

You have make how much fight in the stadiums of Bangkok (Radja, Lumpinee, Omnoi)?

Only 2 times at Radjadamnern (One victory by KO against Moshi Kor Lompsritong, one defeat by stoppage referee against Lamsongkram Chuwattana) but I would really like to fight in all of those stadium (Tobias also fought in the stadium of Rangsit in Bangkok)

TOBIAS IN RADJA STADIUM

And in the King’s Birthday and the Queen’s Birthday you fought how many times?

I have been fighting on every event since December 2009 (12 times all together). The last one (2015-12-04) I didn’t attend due to some trouble with the sponsors of the event…

ALEXANDERSSON IS ONE OF THE FIGHTERS FOREIGNERS WHO MORE FOUGHT IN THE KING’S BIRTHDAY AND QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY

What is your best memory of boxing until now?

When I protected my 160 lbs title against Bernueng and won, because during that time he was one of the biggest Thai names in my weight category!

And the worst?

Losing to Lamsongkram for the Radjadamnern belt, I really wanted that belt around my waist but he was too clever for me that night…

Your hardest fight of your career?

When I fought Adrien Rubis (Popteeratham), I won the fight after a big war but it was hard to fight him, he’s 200 cm tall compared to my 175 cm!

You are a big durable boxer, you like the hard fights, you have make many fights where you were nastily opened to the face, how much stitch you had so far?

The last time I counted I had 187 stitches in my head and face from fighting Muay Thai, I think I had a few small cuts since then so it should be more. I don’t mind them, I see them as a part of my history and personality…

TOBIAS IS A NAK MUAY STITCHED

You know current French fighters?

Yes, France has had many great boxers during the years, I really like the styles of Jean-Charles Skarbovsky, Danny Bill, Guillaume Kerner and Manu Ntoh. Current French fighters that I know of is Fabio Pinca, Damien Alamos, Yohan Lidon, Adrien Rubis, Damien Ozenne and a few more…

TOBIAS WITH GREAT CHAMPION DANY BILL

Of what do you think of French fighters?

On April 30th, you are going to come in France to fight in the event organize by the former great French champion Guillaume Kerner, you are going to face the champion Samy Sana, what is that you know him? Of what think you of your opponent?

I don’t know a lot about him, I know that he fought Yodsanklai, Diesellek and Yohan Lidon…

Sana is a “Warrior” who likes the hard fights, without time-out, little as you, what you have to tell Samy Sana for this fight in France?
